Printing and Mounting Guidelines
All projects, except for the Web project, must be mounted on black illustration mat board (Letramax Superblack is good and inexpensive).
Your Photoshop (.psd) file must be turned in along with your mounted project. Turn in your .psd file to the appropriate folder on the shared drive.
Do not use foam core or construction paper for mounting.
Use Photo Mount, Spray Mount, or some other fixative or spray adhesive to mount your print to the illustration board. Do not use glue or glue sticks!
Cut your illustration board such that there is at least a 2" border around all sides of the print. For an 8.5" x 11" print, the illustration board should be cut to 12.5" x 15".
Do not cut the board or your print with scissors. Use a mat knife (or X-Acto knife) with sharp blades and a metal ruler to cut your boards. Many art supply stores will cut the boards for you for about .25 cents per board.
Print your work on high-quality glossy photo paper. If you print from MiraCosta's library or labs, you cannot use your own paper as it may damage the color laser printers. Ask the lab or library staff (at the computer help desk in OC; in the 106 lab in San Elijo) for the photo paper that is set aside for Photoshop and Illustrator students. They will give you two sheets of paper for your project.
Set your printer's options to print on "Best" or "Photo" quality and be sure to set the paper source as "Photo Paper" rather than plain paper.
Include your design brief and any rough drafts, thumbnails, sketches (or other materials and evidence of process) organized in a yellow 10" by 13" envelope that is label with your name and turn this in along with your final mounted print.
Pay attention to your craftsmanship and have a clean and neat presentation. Wash your hands before you start and protect your work from dirt and scratches. Take pride in your work and have fun.
