CLASS PROJECTS

Design Brief and Process

This course emphasizes conceptual development and the design process in addition to the technical execution of a project.

In addition to the final artwork, projects must include a typewritten design brief (not more than one page) supporting your visual solution that includes: a description your concept, design goals and/or communication objectives; a description of how you utilized appropriate tools to complete the project, achieve stated requirements, and meet your design goals; and a demonstration and/or description of the work done in all of the phases in the design process. Optionally, your design brief may include a design and concept self-evaluation/reflection wherein you comment on what you perceive as the strengths and weaknesses of your project.

If you wish you can use this document as a guide for the design brief.

In addition to the design brief, you may wish to include research evidence and notes (such as prints or photocopies from books, magazines, websites, DVDs, etc.) and any thumbnail sketches, drawings, idea notes, rough drafts, comprehensives, etc. that demonstrate your conceptual and creative development process.

Organize such process work and put it in a yellow 10" by 13" envelope (labeled with your name) along with your design brief and/or affix your design brief to the back of your project’s mat board.
