Group Work: User Scenarios and Usability Testing

1) Find a website (or two) suitable for user experience analysis, identifying user personas/scenarios, and conducting usability testing.

  1. You may consider categories of sites such as hardware stores, colleges, hotels, charities, government/public agencies, dentists, surf shops, etc. and find one or two URLs that might work.

2) Create User Scenarios/Task Analysis:

  1. Identify/imagine 3 different "typical" scenarios in which a user might use this site. Why would a typical user visit the site and what objective(s) do they have and/or task(s) do they want to accomplish in each scenario.

3) Conduct a Usability Test (In Class):

  1. Plan a usability test to perform in class that is informed by your user scenarios (as per above).
  2. Write at least 3 usability test questions, prompts, and/or tasks.
  3. Conduct a Concurrent Think Aloud (CTA) usability test in class (10-15 minutes).
  4. Share your post test impressions about the overall usability of your chosen site and anything else you've learned related to user experience and usability analysis and testing. Based on your usability test, are there any usability issues that you think should (or at least could) be addressed on the site? If so, how might you address them if you were the designer/developer?
